Laura Blaikie
I'm an illustrator and photographer based in the
Scottish Highlands.
I live beside the sea with my wee family and cat in Nairn.
Focusing on nature, I use intricate papercutting, digital illustrations and photography to capture the environment, stories and beautiful wildlife of Scotland.

I studied art for 6 years and have a degree in Fine Art & Photography. I specialise in landscape and natural light photography and love to capture the changing light and seasons with a rich, deep colour palette.

My first paper-cut was created 15 years ago after a stunning flock of Waxwings visited our Fishertown garden. I wanted to capture the fine detail of their plumage and the berries they were feasting on, so I picked up my craft knife and set to work, and have been paper-cutting ever since. I'm inspired by the beautiful folk art paper-cuts of Eastern Europe and I use just a craft knife and a single sheet of paper to create my delicate, detailed designs.

I combine paper-cut illustration with hand drawn and digital illustrations and my designs appear on eco cards, prints and bespoke maps.
